The engine starts.” On Saturday, Marco invited two students to join him for a drive to the Peak District. He used the trip to teach functional English: giving directions, making suggestions, and arranging times. In the car, he practiced phrases: “Shall we leave at nine?” “Take the next left.” “Could you please pass the map?” He pointed out road signs and asked comprehension questions: “What does ‘No Overtaking’ mean?”
