The film stars Keanu Reeves, Brigitte Fialek, and Tsewang Migyur Khangsar. The story begins with a group of Tibetan monks who travel to Seattle to find the reincarnation of the Buddha. They believe that a young boy named Jesse, who was born in the United States, is the reincarnate. The monks bring Jesse to their monastery in Tibet, where he learns about his supposed past life and the teachings of Buddhism.
