The first version of SSL was developed in 1994 by Netscape Communications. SSL 1.0 was not released due to security concerns, and SSL 2.0 was released in 1994. However, SSL 2.0 had several security vulnerabilities, which led to the development of SSL 3.0 in 1996. TLS 1.0 was released in 1999 as an upgrade to SSL 3.0, and it is still widely used today. TLS 1.1 and TLS 1.2 were released in 2006 and 2008, respectively.
